Any town or city, from both Europe and further beyond, is invited to participate in EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK. To take part, each participating town or city must commit to one or more of the three criteria below.  Only the official local authority of the town or city may register for EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK.

At minimum, a city or town must organise an event or activity relating to sustainable urban mobility (those that do not will have their online registration rejected). Local authorities that commit to carrying out all three criteria - holding a week of activities, implementing permanent measures and holding a Car-Free Day - will be designated as 'Golden Participants' and become eligible to apply for the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award.

This year's EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK theme focuses on a concept that we first encountered as toddlers - sharing.

By using shared forms of transport we can reduce our expenses and lower our carbon footprint. Best of all, we can meet new people and make our journey more sociable!

Smart technology, such as apps and online platforms are already helping to make mobility more efficient, saving us money and helping the environment. New applications have made it easier than ever before to manage our mobility together.

Studies show that embracing shared mobility can have a positive impact on our towns and cities: each shared car, for example, takes approximately 15 private cars off the road.

Sharing also enables us to mix transport types more easily. Driving, cycling, public transport - it's all possible when we share.

EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2017 will be celebrated under the theme of "Clean, shared and intelligent mobility", using the call-to-action "Sharing gets you further."
