INNOVA Észak-Alföld Regional Development and Innovation Agency was establishes with the mission to initiate, set up and strengthen networking links between the actors of the innovation ecosystem located in the Northern Great Plain Region, Hungary.

The Agency promotes methods which are supporting innovative initiatives and emphasizes the importance of market orientated RDI activities, thus contributing the commercialisation and emergence of more products from research to the market.


INNOVA formulated the following objectives to enhance the innovation potential and the competiveness of the region:

·        to enhance the innovation ability of stakeholders,

·        to spur market-oriented RDI cooperation,

·        to develop an innovation supportive environment,

·        to develop the innovative human resource,

·        and to promote European good practices in Northern Great Plain Region.


Research & Innovation Strategy: 

INNOVA – entrusted with the task by its owners – has developed the Regional Innovation Strategy in 2011. The strategy defined the health, the food and IT industry as main focus areas for the regional economy, and proposed the development of innovation capacity, the innovation and enterprise friendly ecosystem and that of the innovation networks and networking as priority intervention territories and topics.

Smart Specialisation Strategy: 

In 2013 INNOVA has started working on the regional smart specialisation strategy, and after the central (governmental) decision to integrate all the regional directions and plans into one national strategy, it has been facilitating the regional working groups of the development process.

Although no regional strategies exist at the moment, the national document, in line with the former strategies define Northern Great Plain Region as one of the knowledge regions, and defined healthy society and wellbeing, advanced technologies, healthy and local food, agricultural innovation, and ICT as national priorities.
