| The Transport Work Programme 2010 - Draft |
Transport and accessibility is a precondition for jobs and growth and a key factor for economic development. It facilitates the movement of people, goods and information, increases efficiency and improves the development prospects for the regions. Transport also accounts for a massive part of EU greenhouse gas emissions, which makes it a clear case for efficiency improvements and innovative solutions to fight climate change.
The transport working group is an open forum for developing territorial cooperation facilitating the creation of synergies and the exchange of best practices among the members of the working group in the field of freight and passenger transport. It focuses on identifying all funding and cooperation opportunities in the field of technology innovation related to transport among European programmes, such as FP 7 and IEE and new initiatives and opportunities to be launched by the EU Institutions. Special attention will be paid to cooperation structures, such as clusters and networks of technology providers. The group also includes space-related activities, in particular as they relate to satellite-based transport applications (EGNOS, Galileo).
Its main aims are:
• To screen main European funding initiatives related to all transport modes
• To follow up all relevant transport policy proposals launched by European institutions
• To identify common interests and objectives in the field of transport among Brussels representatives
• To launch new cooperation initiatives and support networking and project development among stakeholders in member regions.
The group is chaired by the Representation of Canary Islands and Eszak-Alföld Region.
