The Minister for Science, Research and Equalities and Second Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Katharina Fegebank, and the Hanse-Office are delighted to invite you to a showcase and discussion on Thursday, 28 September 2017, at 12.00 at the Hanse-Office, Avenue Palmerston 20, 1000 Brussels.
The City Science Lab of HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) and its partners from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab will introduce new approaches and tools for two of the most eminent challenges of our future cities:
· Citizen Participation in the Digital Age
· Urban Data and their Exploitation for City Development.
Founded in 2015 by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and part of MIT´s global City Science Initiative, the CityScienceLab@HafenCity University Hamburg (CSL) endeavours in groundbreaking research on the transformation of our cities in the digital age. The CSL showcase event is targeting at cities and communities, research networks, urban managers and digital enterprises who engage with Smart City development and the urban Internet of Things.
Comprising thematic introductions, an interactive demonstration and a panel discussion with representatives of the European Parliament and the European Commission, the event will focus on the CityScope, a novel digital tool for modeling complex urban development scenarios. The showcase will introduce the tool and its capacities for participatory citizen interaction and present successful applications, such as the project "Finding Places" in which the tool helped to successfully allocate refugees accomodation in the city of Hamburg in 2016.
“Finding Places” was recently awarded the UrbAct Good Practice Award by the European Commission.
