Climathon Brussels

Climathon is a global 24-hour climate change hackathon which will take place simultaneously in major cities around the world on 27 October 2017. It brings together the challenges of the world’s cities with the people who have the passion and ability to solve them. Climathon attracts innovators, entrepreneurs, students and professionals to create innovative solutions to cities climate challenges. For the first time ever, Climate-KIC will host a Climathon in Brussels, a hackathon dedicated to hacking innovative solutions with regards to buildings’ energy performance via active citizen engagement.  The city of Brussels is compounded of a vibrant community of citizens, including highly-qualified human capital coming from all around Europe and beyond. The challenge of the first edition of the Brussels' Climathon will focus on sustainable energy and energy efficiency in buildings. Participants will be asked to provide conceptual and technical solutions to encourage inhabitants to change their behavior toward a more flexible and more efficient consumption pattern of energy in buildings. Proposals could include the use of smart technologies, such as smart metering infrastructure. They should put an emphasis on the potential use of physical and/or virtual tools to leverage the power of communities and citizens. Brussels is the perfect pilot for an exploration of the energy and climate-related aspects in the city in relation to buildings, as well as of the awareness, involvement and active role of citizens in its immediate environment.
