Helsinki EU Office and the City of Lahti invites you to a luncheon seminar to learn about Lahti's participatory approaches to urban development and the important role of cities instrengthening citizen participation throughout the EU.

City of Lahti is an European Green Capital 2020 candidate and a Helsinki EU Office partner. Lahti also received funding from UIA, EU's Urban Innovative Action Initiative for its CitiCAP project dealing with sustainable mobility. A city is an intersection of different viewpoints and a forum for dialogue. Lahti is a Green City built by its people: citizens who generate new ideas and care about urban development, researchers that have contributed the latest knowledge, and businesses that are able to put that knowledge into practice. The CitiCAP Project, funded by the EU’s Urban Innovative Actions Initiative, aims to change the attitude and behaviour of citizens towards sustainable mobility. Through CitiCAP we will build a completely new public incentive, the personal carbon trade (PCT), that may revolutionise the participation of citizens to climate change mitigation. Lahti provides a participatory platform with special emphasis on younger generation participation. These are some of the solutions that other cities can learn from the European Green Capital 2020 candidate.
