The Ministry of the Interior and Sports of the State of Saxony-Anhalt together with the Representation of the State of Saxony-Anhalt to the European Union cordially invite you to attend the following event:

Combating organised cross-border cargo theft, using "tarpaulin cutting”

Approaches by the EU agency Europol, the CARGO project and Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) to dismantle European-wide organised criminal structures and -gangs

Cargo theft in the freight transport sector causes direct damages of approximately 300 million Euro annually in Germany according to estimates by the German Insurance Association. The European Union estimates that the damage to the European economy amounts to 8.2 billion Euro per year.
One of the priorities of the EU policy cycle 2018 – 2021 set by the European Union (EU) and the EU agency Europol is organized property crime, including cargo theft. The State Office of Criminal Investigation Saxony-Anhalt launched the project CARGO on 1 July 2018 to combat cargo theft in cooperation with national and international partners. It is working closely with Europol to boost the exchange of knowledge.

The project’s aims are to promote federal and European cooperation in the fight against cargo theft, create an overview of ongoing procedures and optimize case work at an operational level. This is meant to substantially degrade active organized criminal gangs and their superordinate structures. As part of the event, the lectures and the subsequent panel discussion will present and showcase the work of the EU-Agency Europol, the project CARGO and the association TAPA to both experts and the wider European public.

The discussion will provide an opportunity for an in-depth exchange on the technical aspects of combatting crime and networking with various European regions and representatives of European institutions.
