The Estonian Ministry of Education and Research and Estonian Research Council are pleased to invite you to the Estonian Presidency Conference “Embedding Digital into Societal Challenges”. The event with keynote speeches and discussion will take place on 7 December 2017 from 12.30 to 18.00 h in the Residence Palace (Rue de la Loi 155, 1040 Brussels). A networking reception will follow.

The conference fuels the debate on integrating digital into societal challenges and aims to give messages to the discussions on European research and innovation policy in the lead-up to the next EU Framework Programme. EU science, research and innovation policy plays an important part in merging the physical and digital worlds by maximising the synergies between digital technologies and innovative solutions to societal challenges in areas like health, food, energy, water, bioeconomy and transport. A lot has been done through EU FP programmes, but further steps need to be taken in coming years to unleash the potential of digitalisation for increasing Europe’s competitiveness and economic growth.

Two main working sessions are planned:

Session I: Data as a key enabler for Europe’s future. Prerequisites for free movement of data.

Session II: Societal acceptance of digital solutions. Preconditions for implementation.

Showcases how digitally savvy country Estonia has reacted to arising challenges of embedding digital into societal challenges with research based solutions will presented. An open poster area will be present with the conference in cooperation with Universities and Science Parks of Estonia. Each poster is accompanied with a one page summary with a short description and section to connect the content of the solution to societal challenges.
