The Venlo region is a regional platform in which the municipalities of Venlo, Horst aan de Maas, Venray, Peel en Maas, Beesel, Gennep, Mook en Middelaar and Bergen cooperate to reach common goals. Together we have formed a shared agenda of fourteen themes of which four have a international priority and are represented by our public affairs workgroup. These themes are Agrifood, Logistics, The Circular Econmy and the crossborder labourmarket.
The ambition of the Venlo Region is to join Europe's leading smart and sustainable Agrifood regions, under the name of Greenport Venlo. Research performed by Eurostat has shown that our region is currently placed just outside the top ten. In our region not only many agraric products are produced, but there is also a strong agrotechnological and (agro)logistical presence. Having the complete chain of production in our own region, gives us the ideal opportunity to market our agrarical knowhow.
Together with our Tripple Helix partners we work on the development of new sustainable revenue moddels like the insecteconomy to keep our sector innovative and competative, in a time where upscaling and competitive prizing are not longer profitable.
The Venlo Greenport campus is a important facilitator in this proces, since it brings together regional parters to work on Strenghtening our position as a region of healthy and and safe food.
In 2016 the connection Venlo-Venray has been acknowledged as the number one logistical hotspot of the Netherlands for the nineth time since the first award ceremony in 2005. Venlo region is characterised by its distribution centres, making up a combined size of 1.5 million square meters and transhipping 360.000 TUE and 7 to 8 million bulk goods on a yearly basis. Together with our regional partner, Smart logistics Centre Venlo (SMART LCV), Our aim is placed at transport via the road, waterways and railways and innovative and sustainable solutions on the TEN-T corridor
