Commission to set up Border Focal Point in 2017 and pilot projects to be announced

In its recent Communication, Boosting growth and cohesion in EU border regions, the European Commission proposes a Border Focal Point in 2017 and will follow up with 20 small pilot projects to solve cross-border administrative problems. The total budget will be 600,000 euros and the project size will be around 20,000 per project, which can cover travel, IT and some legal support. Pilot projects will be announced by the end of 2017, and the selection process will be finished by mid-2018. The overall aim of the Communication is to highlight ways in which Europe can reduce the complexity, length and costs of cross-border interaction and promote the pooling of services along internal borders. The Communication is the result of two years of intensive research and dialogue with border stakeholders, national authorities of Member States and partner countries and regional/local authorities.
