Smart Textiles and Smart Wearables are in a continuous evolution. The topic links different thematic areas (and ERRIN WGs): Textiles, Design, Big Data/ICT, nanomaterials, microelectronics, sensors, advanced manufacturing, energy storage and cover a wide range of applications (most of them are probably not even known yet): environment, health and wellbeing, fashion, energy, Smart Cities and so on.
On European level, the Commission (DG Connect) is working on the topic of smart wearables. In January 2017 DG Connect issued a reflection paper which takes stock of current technological, market and policy developments. Regarding the interregional cooperation different initiatives and platforms are running. From regional side it becomes visible that amongst the ERRIN member regions there is a lot of knowhow and competencies in the different areas.
The commission’s reflection paper names as one of the non-technological barriers of the uptake of smart wearables: “A lack of common understanding and effective cooperation models between eco-system actors: value chain actors include device makers, network operators, content and application providers, textile producers, clinicians, artists and consumers. Insufficient connection and communication amongst them hamper the creation of business value and market acceptance.”
Objective of the workshop:
The workshop is set up to explore ERRIN regions interests and competencies, link them to European policy, activities and initiatives, give them the opportunity to find one another and discuss on possible future common interests and collaborations.
A registration form and an updated agenda are available below. Please note that due to limited capacity, registration is on a first come, first served basis.
Please note that for preparation purposes as well as service for you, in the registration form we have included some questions that we kindly ask you to answer. The aim is to collect some additional information about competencies and interests of participants. This will help you to get the most out of the networking and topic discussions and will allow us to make sure the event will be according to your wishes and needs. The results of the survey will be provided to you for further use at a later stage.
We kindly ask you to support us by participating in the short survey below until May 23, 2017.
In addition, should your regions be interested in giving a presentation about Smart Textile / Wearables Competences in Regions, please do no hesitate and get in touch with Annelie Zapfe (Annelie.Zapfe@tlveu.thueringen.de)
