Located in the very south of Austria, Carinthia (Kärnten) is known for its rich history, famous natural sites in the mountains as well as numerous lakes. With a surface of 9538,01 km², Carinthia borders in the west the province of Tyrol, in the north the province of Salzburg, in the north and the east the province of Styria, and in the south Italy (Friuli Venezia Giulia) and Slovenia (Gorenjska, Savinjska, Koroška).
The EU-Representation Office of Carinthia is based in Brussels since the Austrian EU accession in 1995. Since 2005, the office shares premises with the regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Istria and Sarajevo in a multiregional building, illustrating the European added value.
