Northamptonshire County Council is a local government organisation providing vital public services to one of the most rapidly growing counties in the UK. Northamptonshire is the largest single growth area outside London and has a current population of about 700,000. The county is well located, at the crossroads of the national road and rail network and located on a Priority TENs Link. It is also located with 1.5 hours of five international airports and accessible to mainland Europe in two hours via Eurostar. The county is home to the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, the largest of its type in Europe, and Silverstone Circuit home of the British Grand Prix and centre of a world leading high performance technology cluster. The County Council has a €1.2 bn (£1bn) plus budget providing services such as schools, highways, public health, social services, waste management, libraries, country parks, trading standards and the fire service. The Council, has won national recognition for its work in many areas. These include attracting international inward investment, supporting economic growth and infrastructure funding and delivery. It has also received EU recognition for improving the business environment. Through the Northamptonshire Arc strategy and A Smart Move for Northamptonshire concept, the Council also has clear ambitions and plans to be at the forefront of activities supporting the digital economy and smart living including the use of intelligent transport systems and user-focused approaches.
