It plays a significant role not only in the socio-economic development of Poland but also in the central-eastern part of Europe. The main scientific and technological specialisations of Lower Silesia with great potential for innovation and implementation in up coming years are the following : water and civil engineering, mechanics and automation, chemical science including material engineering and nanotechnologies, medical science, biology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticcals and food science, IT and communications, measurement technologies, enviromental technologies. The role of the Lower Silesia Regional Office in Brussels is an effective representation of the Region’s interests as well as providing to the efficient use of the EU membership opportunities. Key strategic axes of the Office activity are: - support of regional partners in the acquisition of the EU sectoral funds and their promotion in Brussels - ongoing monitoring of EU policies that impact the region e.g. the EU cohesion policy, Research and Development policy, European energy policy, Common Agriculture Policy (CAP), - lobbying for the Lower Silesia region in the EU institutions in selected areas, sharing information and services among groups having a common interest, through the participation in various networks e.g. ERRIN
