We are pleased to invite you to the next instalment of our Scotland House Discussion Series. Join Professor Patricia Findlay and Grahame Smith, Co-Chairs of Scotland’s Fair Work Convention and Linda Murray, Head of Strategy Services for Scottish Enterprise for a conversation on the potential of and challenges in developing a fair work agenda for Scotland. Social partnership approaches to delivering on economic and social priorities are an integral feature of some European countries, but are less commonly developed in liberal market economies like the UK.  Scotland, however, has pursued a strong voluntarist, social partnership based approach to fair work over recent years, and aspires to be a leading fair work nation.  The speakers will briefly discuss why Scotland has a Fair Work Convention and a Fair Work Framework, will outline efforts to develop a wider movement in support of fair work, and reflect on the potential of – and challenges in delivering – a fair work agenda that generates benefits for workers and citizens, business and employers, and that makes a significant contribution to Scotland’s economic and social well-being. Patricia Findlay is Professor of Work and Employment Relations and Director of the Scottish Centre for Employment Research at the University of Strathclyde. She leads the ‘Innovating Works’ programme and the Fair, Innovative and Transformative work (FITwork) project. She is a member of the Scotland Can Do Innovation Forum, CIPD Scotland’s Regional Advisory Group and the Scottish Living Wage Campaign Steering Group. She is Co-Chair of Scotland’s Fair Work Convention. Patricia is an internationally cited author on job quality and leads a series of research programmes on workplace innovation and fair work. Grahame Smith was appointed General Secretary of the Scottish TUC in November 2006. He serves on a number of Boards/bodies in the field of economic development and skills. He is a Non-Executive Director of Skills Development Scotland, Investors In People Community Interest Company and SQA, a member of the Enterprise and Skills Strategic Board and the Chairperson of Scotland Europa. He is Co-Chair of Scotland’s Fair Work Convention. Following the 2016 EU Referendum, Grahame was appointed by the First Minister to serve on the Standing Council on Europe which is advising the Scottish Government on the Brexit and maintaining Scotland's relationship with the EU.  Linda Murray is Head of Strategy Services for Scottish Enterprise. She currently chairs the joint Scottish Enterprise and Partner Agencies Brexit Response group, the Strategic Plan Joint Working Group and SE’s Inclusive Growth Champions group. She is a member of the West Region-Developing the Young workforce Board, the Glasgow advisory board of Career Ready Scotland and the Innovating Works Advisory Board at the University of Strathclyde.
