Saxony-Anhalt UNESCO World Heritage - The centenary of the Bauhaus Dessau and the New European Bauhaus

Saxony-Anhalt UNESCO World Heritage - The centenary of the Bauhaus Dessau and the New European Bauhaus

It has been one hundred years since the Bauhaus moved to Dessau. From September 2025 until the end of 2026, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and its many partners celebrate this anniversary with exhibitions, artistic programmes, conferences and festivals. Under the banner of ‘To the Core. Bauhaus Dessau 100‘, modern and contemporary materials will be put under the spotlight at numerous exhibitions and events in the Bauhaus building, the former Zeeck department store, the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, and at other venues across the city.

The question of how architecture can create aesthetically pleasing, healthy and safe living environments, while also being inclusive and sustainable, remains a key societal issue, even one hundred years after the Bauhaus came to Dessau. During the second half of the evening, we will therefore be discussing the ideas behind and development of the ‘New European Bauhaus’ (NEB) initiative, and showcasing related projects in Saxony-Anhalt.

The evening will be complemented by dance recitals from Celia Millán, who will present excerpts from Oskar Schlemmer’s ‘material dances’ from 1928.

Registration is available here. The deadline for application is 28 October 2025.
