Smart Specialisation WG meeting: Future of cohesion policy in support to R&I

With discussions around the new cohesion policy framework post-2027 in full swing, this ERRIN Smart Specialisation WG meeting will focus on how cohesion policy can support R&I. The event will take place on 22 October from 10:00-11:45 in person at ERRIN premises.

Following the releases of the Report of the Group of High-level Specialists on the Future of Cohesion Policy in February, and the European Commission’s 9th Cohesion Report in March this year, this meeting will aim to take stock of the ongoing discussions regarding the future of cohesion policy in the next Multiannual Financial Framework from multiple angles. We will discuss the value of cohesion policy for investments on R&I in European regions, as well as invite the speakers and audience to think collectively on how future cohesion policy can better support R&I.

Among the speakers will be representatives of the Polish Permanent Representation and European Commission's DG REGIO, as well as higher education sector colleagues who would share the view of researchers and innovators on cohesion policy. Feedback would also be given from a European project focusing on improving structural funds to better deliver R&I policies.

You may find the meeting agenda attached.

Thank you for attending this Smart Specialisation WG meeting. You may find the presentations from the session on this page.

ERRIN actively fosters discussions around the future of cohesion policy and its links with R&I. In January this year, our Policy WG organised a meeting Towards R&I and cohesion policies post-2027, and a separate Smart Specialisation WG meeting on R&I and cohesion policy post-2027 took place in September 2023. We also shared ERRIN's first general reflections with regard to the cohesion policy framework post-2027, as contribution to the CoR stakeholder consultation in August last year and signed a Joint Letter of European Regions on the Future of Cohesion Policy in May 2024.
