Update of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy - Bioeconomy WG meeting

Update of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy - Bioeconomy WG meeting

ERRIN’s Bioeconomy Working Group is organising an in-person meeting on 14 March 2025 from 9:30 to 12:00 to discuss the upcoming update of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and its implications for European regions.

Bio-based materials, nature-based solutions, and biotechnologies play a crucial role in achieving the EU Green Deal objectives while proving place-based solutions. 13 years after the first EU bioeconomy strategy, what are the results and future expectations for the regions? How does the updated Strategy can better support regional bioeconomy development?

This event is meant to mark a key moment in the process of a broader positioning activity that started already in 2024 with the publication of a joint position paper with the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), and a consultation with ERRIN members to provide input on concrete legislation issues encountered by regional actors.

The European Commission will provide a keynote speech on the review process, presenting the upcoming consultation and outlining key expectations for its revision. The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) will present the joint position paper developed with ERRIN, highlighting the importance of collaboration between public and private sector to advance bioeconomy at local and regional level.

An interactive fishbowl discussion will foster an open dialogue between the European Commission, EU regions and key networks partners. This discussion will build on the consultation ERRIN conducted with its members to collect inputs on the Bioeconomy Strategy, ensuring that regional perspectives, challenges, and expectations are effectively conveyed. Members will have the opportunity to exchange insights, ensuring that regional priorities are well represented in the ongoing policy discussions.

The meeting will take place at the ERRIN Office, Rue du Luxembourg 3, Brussels. Coffee and a light breakfast will be provided. Please see the agenda attached.
