The Axencia Galega de Innovación (Galician Innovation Agency, GAIN) is the public body of the regional government of Galicia, Xunta de Galicia, responsible for structuring, planning, coordinating and implementing research and innovation strategies, as well as for the Galician Plan for Research, Innovation and Growth (I2C Plan, 2011-2015). It is also responsible for the implementation and coordination of the Smart Specialization Strategy in the region.

With information and dissemination activities or services such as the management of financial and granting programmes, among other, GAIN supports businesses to increase their competitiveness and to firmly and sustainably grow through innovation and creativity. It also enhances companies´ participation in EU-funded projects, and can provide them with specialised services via 2 innovation centres:
Centre of Innovation & Services on Design and Technology (CIS)
Centro of Innovation & Technological Services on Timber (CIS-Madeira)
In parallel to all the above mentioned, GAIN has promoted and participated in a number of EU-funded projects, specially in the framework of INTERREG, FP6 & 7 or ERA-NET, in areas such as the lead market initiative, materials science and engineering, maritime transport and pollution, technology transfer, promotion of innovation, energy, ICT or science communication.
