MédioTejo21 is a regional energy and environment agency, created in 2009, aiming at promoting innovative solutions in the area of energy efficiency and overall sustainability for the region. MédioTejo21 aims at developing a network of regional skills, namely in the context of improving the development of the economic, social and institutional aspects through the promotion of more efficient conditions in the conversion and use of energy as well as reducing the pressure over local public resources and energy system infrastructures. The region is committed to innovation, sustainability and growth. Innovation as new urban management solutions are planned and implemented to improve life quality, attractiveness and sustainability. Given the global environmental sustainability scenario, the climate change scenario and the global increase of energy consumption it is essential to work towards a more efficient region at all levels, namely through circular economy goals and principles.
MedioTejo21 establishes partnerships with public and private entities both at the national and international level, with the main objective of promoting investment projects in the energy and environmental sector, taking into account the impact of these actions on economic and regional activity. The associated municipalities of MédioTejo21 are Abrantes, Alcanena, Constância, Entroncamento, Ferreira do Zêzere, Mação, Ourém, Sardoal, Tomar, Torres Novas, Vila Nova da Barquinha, Oleiros, Proença-a-Nova, Sertã e Vila de Rei. Additionally to the municipalities, MédioTejo21 cooperates with national institutions of the scientific and technological system. MédioTejo21 acts in the Médio Tejo (NUTS III PT16C) region which is located in the Centro region (NUTS II PT16). With a covered region of 4,210.70 km2, the municipalities have a total population of 259,828 inhabitants (2011).
The IP + project, More Efficient Public Lighting in the Médio Tejo e Pinhal Interior Sul is an integrated project and its mission is to develop a pilot system for the management, information, monitoring and control of the efficiency of public lighting
The EP + project, Public Buildings More Buildings in the Médio Tejo e Pinhal Interior Sul, is an integrated project that aims to propose a set of measures that implemented, individually or together, to reduce the energy bill of Municipal buildings.
