Call for applications: Join the EU Housing Advisory Board

In response to the growing housing affordability crisis across the European Union, the European Commission has launched a call for applications to establish the Housing Advisory Board, a high-level expert group supporting the newly established Housing Task Force under DG Energy (DG ENER).

This initiative follows the appointment of the first-ever EU Commissioner for Housing (2024–2029), showing a significant step forward in strengthening the EU’s involvement in housing issues while respecting Member States’ competences.

The Housing Advisory Board will consist of up to 15 members appointed in a personal capacity to provide independent policy recommendations. These recommendations will directly support the development and implementation of the upcoming European Affordable Housing Plan. The group is expected to operate for a one-year mandate, with meetings taking place two to three times during that period.

Who should apply?

The Commission is seeking experts with:

  • Proven and relevant experience in housing, real estate, urban development or related fields;
  • A strong track record at local, national, EU or international levels;
  • Expertise in areas such as social and affordable housing, homelessness, zoning, construction, renovation, financing instruments, sustainability and innovation;
  • Fluency in English and the ability to actively participate in technical discussions.

The deadline to apply is 21 May 2025. The application form is available here. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to shaping future EU housing policy. ERRIN encourages members with relevant expertise and interest to consider applying or sharing the call with their networks.
