The Mission Platform, managed by NetZeroCities and where ERRIN contributes to citizen and stakeholder engagement, invites expressions of interest from cities across Europe to join the Cities Mission Online Discussion Groups.
This six-month programme is designed to accelerate local climate action through structured peer learning and expert guidance, offering offer cities the opportunity to learn directly from pioneering Mission Cities that are already implementing ambitious climate-neutral solutions.
This edition, running from September 2025 to February 2026, will support participating cities with tailored one-to-one expert support, opportunities for study visits to Mission Cities, access to exclusive tools and the Mission Portal and a dynamic peer-to-peer exchange environment.
Thematic focus areas
Participating cities will explore solutions across four key areas, guided by cities with hands-on experience:
Innovative financing: Florence & Malmö
Decarbonising energy and district heating: Pécs, Lund & Espoo
Built environment and circular construction: Helsinki & Oslo
Citizen engagement and behavioural change: Helsingborg & Grenoble-Alpes Métropole
The first edition of this programme brought together 180 participants, underscoring the high level of engagement and the value of peer exchange in driving forward local climate actions. This is an excellent opportunity for cities to co-develop practical approaches to climate neutrality, while leveraging the lessons learned and tested by leading Mission Cities.

NetZeroCities is a groundbreaking programme that tests new approaches to reaching climate neutrality goals across cities in Europe. This Pilot Cities Programme is part of the EU Mission for 100 climate-neutral and smart cities (‘EU Cities Mission’), and it helps cities as they test out locally tailored actions towards a climate transition.
Within this programme, ERRIN is leading the work on establishing strategic partnerships between NetZeroCities and other initiatives, projects and EU Missions. supporting the Climate City Contract (CCC) activities, advancing multi-level governance within the Cities Mission, contributes to the citizen and stakeholder engagement activities and facilitates twinning partnerships between Mission Cities and other European cities.
