Climate Pact

Public consultation for European Climate Pact launched

As part of the European Green Deal, the Commission has launched a public consultation for its European Climate Pact, designed to give everyone a voice on future climate actions. The aim of the Climate Pact is to inform, inspire and foster cooperation between people and organisations across national, regional and local authorities, as well as civil society, businesses, education, research and innovation organisations, consumer groups and individuals.

All submissions to the consultation will be used to shape the final design of the Pact, which will officially launch ahead of COP26 in Glasgow in November 2020. There are also plans for further citizen consultations later in the initiative.

The Pact will encourage people and organisations to commit to and take concrete actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The Commission could provide targeted support in this area, starting with buildings, mobility and tree-planting specifically.

Discussing the Pact and consultation, Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans, emphasised the need for education and information if Europe is to reach the goals set out in the EU Green Deal.

The consultation is open until 17 June 2020.
