The Working Group focuses on the blue economy covering both marine and maritime research and innovation areas with the intention to support members with their regional strategies (S3 and sea basin) in the field. Sustainability and the digital challenges related to the marine and maritime sector are key issues. The group aims to foster participation in present and future European funding programmes and initiatives and to build partnership between members.

European Maritime Day 2020

This event has been postponed. The annual two-day conference and expo, European Maritime Day (EMD) will this year take place in Cork, Ireland. The event will allow for Europe's maritime community to meet in order to network and forge joint action on sustainable blue economy and maritime affairs.  The conference is an interactive experience for 'Ocean Leaders' to catch up on the current state of affairs relating to blue economy, the marine environment and future plans. The Mediterranean Sea is the world's leading tourist region with a major industry, providing the main source of income to local economies. International Ocean Governance Forum

In association with the European External Action service, the European Commission will present the International Ocean Governance Forum on 22nd-24th April 2020. The IOG Forum will take place in Brussels and provide a platform for stakeholders within and beyond ocean challenges and governance solutions to continue the development of the EU International Ocean Governance Agenda.  The EU continues its work to reduce pressure on oceans and seas while creating the conditions for a sustainable blue economy, and this forum is the latest step in this endeavour.  Find more information about the IOG…

Blue Bioeconomy Forum - Roadmap for the blue bioeconomy

The Blue Bioeconomy Forum was set up in 2018 as a platform for entrepreneurs, researchers, government officials and other stakeholder to further develop the blue bioeconomy. At the centre of this initiative was the creation of a roadmap to identify the future regulatory, financial assistance and product needs. Over the past year and a half two stakeholder meetings and a consultation have been organised to collect input on the drivers and obstacles for the blue bioeconomy to develop and grow. Additional measures to mobilise investements and resources - CRII+

To complement the Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative, the Commission has announced a new, complementary package. The Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative Plus (CRII+) package introduces flexibility to ensure non-utilised support can be enacted.  The flexibility is provided through the three cohesion policy funds (the European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and Cohesion Fund), transfers between different categories of regions and through thematic concentration.
