Science & Education for Society

The Science & Education for Society Working Group addresses topics related to the concept of place-based universities and engagement with society and citizens while also working on the role of education in S3 as well as education and skills for research and innovation. The Working Group facilitates information sharing, knowledge development, and aims to strengthen existing and build new relationships with the EU institutions. Facilitating project development is also part of the Working Group's scope.

Women & STEM: IWD breakfast discussion

For its annual International Women's Day event, this year the Nordic diplomatic representations and cultural institutes are hosting a breakfast discussion on the subject of women and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).  The discussion will address the problem of a scarcity of women in the STEM fields, ask how to tackle it and bridge collaborations for equality within different areas of STEM. Engineering (for) Europe's Future

European Universities Initiative – supporting regional development

The first call for proposal for European University alliances was a success and led to the selection of 17 alliances from 114 different higher education institutions and 24 member states. The second call for proposals will be launched this autumn. The Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA Panel) has decided to organise a series of scientific events under the name of ‘Science Week at the European Parliament’. STOA will organise these events in co-operation with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, and with the European Research Council (ERC). DG EAC publishes call for 'European Universities'

At the 2017 Gothenburg Summit, EU leaders outlined a vision for education and culture. This included, amongst other things, to strengthen strategic partnerships across the EU between higher education institutions and to encourage the emergence by 2024 of “European Universities” – bottom-up networks of universities across the EU, which enable students to obtain a degree by combining studies in more than one Member State. The project development workshop is an excellent opportunity to interact with institutions, civil society organisations, and providers in the field of education and training, to build consortia for the next ERASMUS+ calls. 

This year the project development workshop is organised by the ERRIN Science and Education for Society Working Group as part of the ReSET network’s activities being incorporated into ERRIN earlier this year.
