Policy WG reflection meeting on ERRIN's role in resilience, security and defence

Europe has been undergoing a period of increased uncertainty with both geopolitical threats and challenges over global competitiveness. These tensions have also been felt by ERRIN members - over 90% of those who responded to the ERRIN member annual survey highlighted resilience, security and defence as strategic priorities in their regions.

This Policy WG meeting will offer a space for reflection on ERRIN's role in resilience, security and defence, and how to integrate these considerations better in the network's ongoing work. Together with the invited speakers, we will consider how the various elements of this complex topic can fit our ongoing work on competitiveness, thematic Working Groups as well as the revamped Working Group on Climate Adaptation and Resilience.

Some guiding questions for discussion include:

  • What are the key areas of interest for the membership related to resilience, security and defence? And therefore, in which areas should ERRIN enhance its activities?
  • How can ERRIN add value in this area? What structures already exist to tackle security and defence at regional level and how can ERRIN complement the work already underway?
  • What opportunities – in terms of support, collaborative projects, connecting territorial ecosystems – do the current security and defence related support schemes offer? What is changing in the post-2027 framework and how can we get ready for those changes?
  • What structures does ERRIN already have that could help tackling key topics identified? (Competitiveness workstream, Smart Specialisation WG, Climate adaptation and resilience WG, other thematic clusters and/or Working Groups) What role can those structures play in addressing key issues identified? 

The meeting will take place in person at the ERRIN premises on Tuesday, 24 February from 14:30-17:00. A welcome coffee will be served from 14:00.
