The goal of the NEB Task Force is to follow up the EU level developments of the initiative as well as showcase activities carried out on the local level to demonstrate concrete examples and results and build momentum towards a stronger NEB initiative. One of the main objectives of the task force is to develop members' understanding of the NEB initiative and, consequently, their capacity to maximise their engagement with it, particularly engaging their local ecosystems and building new collaborations. As a NEB partner, ERRIN aims to strengthen the policy dialogue with the EU institutions, with the NEB Taks Force driven by the most active members in the NEB topic.

The third edition of the New European Bauhaus festival will take place in Brussels from 9 to 13 June 2026. Organised by the European Commission, it will address the transformative power of democratic engagement in shaping more inclusive and sustainable communities. Applications are open to participate and contribute to the festival.
The info day will present the NEB Facility call for 2026, with a strong focus on an extensive question-and-answer session. The preliminary agenda includes an introduction followed by presentations structured around the three destinations of the NEB Facility call. The programme also includes a joint topic developed with the Cities Mission, the Built4People Partnership and the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative, as well as presentations on the Research Enquiry Service (RES) and on integrating social sciences and humanities (SSH) into Horizon Europe project proposals.
On 12 February 2026, the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI), is organising an hybrid multi-stakeholder dialogue in view of collecting inputs for the Circular Economy Act which is expected to be published in the third quarter of 2026. During this dialogue, cities and regions will have the unique opportunity to provide their feedback on the policy recommendations the CCRI is proposing for supporting the circular transition locally. On 16 December 2025, the European Commission presented its plans for the future of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), marking a decisive step from vision to large-scale implementation. Adopted as part of the European Affordable Housing Plan, the Communication 'New European Bauhaus: From vision to implementation', together with an accompanying proposal for a Council Recommendation, sets out how the initiative will be scaled up to strengthen its role as a driver of the clean transition and innovation in Europe and beyond.
On 16 December, the European Commission presented its first-ever European Affordable Housing Plan, setting out a comprehensive framework to improve access to affordable and sustainable housing across Europe. The Plan is highly relevant for local and regional authorities and their R&I stakeholders, who will play a central role in delivering place-based implementation on the ground.
A new European report, Creative Shifts: Empowering Culture for Sustainable Living, sheds light on the growing contribution of the cultural and creative sectors (CCS) to sustainability and climate action across the European Union. The report is the result of work carried out in 2024 and 2025 by the Open Method of Coordination (OMC) group on the Green transition of the cultural and creative sectors, bringing together experts from EU Member States under the EU Work Plan for Culture 2023–2026.
On 10 December, ERRIN members gathered in Brussels for the network’s Autumn General Meeting. The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on a year marked by network growth, increased policy engagement and evolving EU priorities, while looking ahead to 2026 and the post-2027 R&I landscape. ERRIN warmly thanks Scotland Europa for hosting the meeting and all members for their active engagement throughout 2025, as the network continues to strengthen the role of regional stakeholders in EU research and innovation policy.
The European Commission has adopted the 2026 and 2027 Horizon Europe Work Programmes, outlining €14 billion in funding for research and innovation projects across the EU. The calls are now available also on ERRIN’s Project Development Tool. We invite ERRIN members and interested organisations to navigate the tool, express interest, search for project coordinators and seek partners.
ERRIN will suggest amendments to the proposed Horizon Europe and European Competitiveness Fund regulations based on our input documents. ERRIN members are warmly invited to add your comments and suggest additional amendments. We welcome your contributions as soon as possible and at the latest by 23 January as the work on both proposals are moving fast.
