The main objective of the Energy & Climate Change Working Group is to act as a platform to discuss and share information on energy-related policies and funding programmes, especially looking at the Green Deal and REPowerEU, the Green Industrial Plan, the Hydrogen Valleys, the energy storage and batteries (with reference to S3 Partnership on batteries) and Horizon Europe.
The priority areas also feature climate change issues (such as climate adaptation), nature-based solutions and natural resources. The WG is set to explore links and synergies with other areas in which energy and climate change play central role and cooperate with other ERRIN Working Groups, namely the Transport, Smart Cities, SEFS and S3 Working Groups, as well as the ERRIN Task Forces on climate adaptation and on the New European Bauhaus.
On 19 November (15:00–16:00), the Transport Working Group will organise a meeting dedicated to AI in Transport, implementing the European AI Strategy, with a welcome coffee starting at 14:30.
On 4 November (14:30 – 16:30), the three Working Groups under the Low Carbon Cluster (Energy and Climate Change WG, Transport WG, Smart Cities WG) and the Policy WG will co-organise a meeting
The Smart Cities Working Group is organising an event on the Cities Mission label, on Wednesday 22 October at 14:00 at ERRIN’s premises. Cases studies from Mission cities will be presented. Moreover

A new edition of the Heritage Dialogue will take place in Brussels on 3 December, focusing on 'Cultural Heritage and Building Renovation: Aligning the EPBD and Affordable Housing Objectives'. As part of its work within the NetZeroCities project, ERRIN has developed three case studies showcasing the critical role that regions can play in the EU Mission on climate-neutral and smart cities, using examples from ERRIN member regions. With their climate-related competencies and responsibilities within national governance structures, and role in implementing national policies and facilitating financing, regions are uniquely positioned to support cities in achieving their climate neutrality goals.

The 23rd European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC) brought together over 6,000 participants in Brussels under the motto Shaping Tomorrow, Together. As the largest annual event on EU Cohesion Policy, it provided a platform for cities and regions to exchange ideas on sustainable development, innovation and inclusiveness. ERRIN and its members were actively engaged throughout the week, contributing to and supporting several sessions that highlighted the importance of strong and connected regional innovation ecosystems.
The Clean Hydrogen Partnership has officially launched the Hydrogen Valleys Knowledge Centre, a new platform designed to share knowledge, exchange best practices and provide capacity building for Hydrogen Valleys and the wider hydrogen community.
ERRIN warmly congratulates the 103 European cities that have now been awarded the EU Cities Mission Label, following the lates round of recognitions presented by Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation during the European Week of Regions and Cities 2025 in Brussels. 11 new cities received the EU Mission Label – including three from ERRIN member regions: Angers Loire Metropole (France), Eindhoven & Helmond (Netherlands) and Groningen (Netherlands).

Island regions face particular socio-economic and environmental challenges arising from insularity, resource scarcity and dependence on external markets. This course offers a multidisciplinary and comparative perspective on governance and sustainable development in island contexts. Through the analysis of practical cases and real policies, it aims to provide participants with the knowledge and tools to help build more resilient, autonomous and sustainable island territories.
