Energy & Climate Change

The main objective of the Energy & Climate Change Working Group is to act as a platform to discuss and share information on energy-related policies and funding programmes, especially looking at the Green Deal and REPowerEU, the Green Industrial Plan, the Hydrogen Valleys, the energy storage and batteries (with reference to S3 Partnership on batteries) and Horizon Europe. 
The priority areas also feature climate change issues (such as climate adaptation), nature-based solutions and natural resources. The WG is set to explore links and synergies with other areas in which energy and climate change play central role and cooperate with other ERRIN Working Groups, namely the Transport, Smart Cities, SEFS and S3 Working Groups, as well as the ERRIN Task Forces on climate adaptation and on the New European Bauhaus.

Registrations are now open for the European Hydrogen Week 2024. This edition will count on three different conference streams: The High-Level Policy Conference, gathering high-level industry representatives and policymakers; the B2B Forum, the stage for market and technology perspectives on hydrogen deployment; and the newly added Innovation Hub, shedding the spotlight on research. Case studies: The role of regions in the Mission on 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030

As part of its work within the NetZeroCities project, ERRIN has developed three case studies showcasing the critical role that regions can play in the EU Mission on climate-neutral and smart cities, using examples from ERRIN member regions. With their climate-related competencies and responsibilities within national governance structures, and role in implementing national policies and facilitating financing, regions are uniquely positioned to support cities in achieving their climate neutrality goals.

EU grants for climate resilience: opportunities for regions and local authorities

On 6 November, MIP4Adapt hosted an event on "EU Grants for Climate Resilience", with the goal of providing regional and local authorities with comprehensive insights into funding opportunities for climate adaptation in Europe. European Study Tour: Training local Officials in Ecological Transition

The association Synergies 53, which works for sustainable development, wishes to organise a study tour in Europe for local elected officials to train them in climate change adaptation and ecological transition. This trip, scheduled for July 2025, will last 3 to 4 days and will allow local officials to visit local initiatives and exchange with European elected representatives. 2030CATALYSTS: Open call for EU regions to implement the SDGs

A new call for EU regions to turn the SDGs into local missions is now open. The 2030CATALYSTS project will support a maximum of 20 EU regions to enhance their approaches to SDG monitoring and implementation, and pave the way for effective, data-driven, co-created strategies. The call for expression of interest is open until 31 October 2024.

Launch of the EU Preparatory Action on Innovation for Place-Based Transformation

The European Commission’s JRC has just launched the EU Preparatory Action on Innovation for Place-Based Transformation, a new initiative supported by the European Parliament and designed to help territories maximise their innovation potential. Public authorities from across the EU and Horizon Europe Associated Countries have until 22 November to apply for the call.

Another 20 cities receive EU Mission Label for advancing climate neutrality goals

On 8 October, the European Commission revealed the next 20 European cities to be awarded the EU Mission Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities label for their plans to reach climate neutrality by 2030. 8 of these cities are located in ERRIN member regions. The first 10 cities received their Mission Label in October 2023, followed by 23 more cities that were awarded in March 2024. This brings the total number of cities with the label to 53.
