Regio Stedendriehoek

The Regio Stedendriehoek consists of the municipalities of Apeldoorn, Brummen, Deventer, Epe, Heerde, Lochem, Voorst and Zutphen, forming a unique partnership in the eastern central part of the Netherlands. We collaborate with entrepreneurs, educational institutions, and others, such as water boards. By jointly tackling urgent societal challenges such as housing construction, climate adaptation and the energy transition, we maintain and strengthen our facilities, quality of life and economic resilience. Acting as a unit means that we are in a stronger position during major investment projects and transitions. To this end, the central government is increasingly collaborating with regions rather than municipalities or provinces.

Regio Stedendriehoek

S3 Strategy

The DNA of the Stedendriehoek region. Our regional economy boasts over 700 innovative companies in high-tech, ICT and process technology.

1) In this context, small and medium-sized enterprises form the backbone of our economy. We also have a continuous learning pathway ranging from practice-oriented to academic education. Innovation locations strengthen our knowledge base in domains such as digital security, process technology, and applications in the physical living environment. Learning does not just take place here; design, testing, and application take place here.

2) Some key pillars of our innovation ecosystem are:

• Unique study programs at the intersection of security, resilience and digitalisation. These programs focus on ambient intelligence, online resilience, data analysis, OT Security, AI, the energy transition, smart health, smart cities, water technology, mechatronics, engineering and security.

• Approximately 60% of companies active within the safety and/or digitalisation sector have an innovation footprint.

• Companies from the region are frontrunners within the Infra Capacity Alliance, which aims to establish predictable crisis responses.

• Through international programs such as Horizon Europe, we are helping to build solutions and value chains for energy, food, water, safety and circular construction.
