West Pomeranian Voivodeship is located in north-western Poland and borders with the Baltic Sea to the north, Germany to the west, and on the Polish side to three voivodeships: Pomorskie, Wielkopolska and Lubuskie. The capital of the voivodeship is Szczecin. The voivodeship is characterised by a lot of lakes and 185-kilometer of the Baltic Sea coast and beaches covered with golden sand. The tasks of the voivodeship self-government are carried out by the Marshal's Office, in which works Center for Economic Initiatives which is responsible, for among others, development activities in the area of R&D and innovations, cooperation with universities and other scientific institution, stimulating economic development. Activities are carried out in such a way as to strengthen the regional innovation system, based on smart specialisations of the region while maintaining the principles of sustainable development. Western Pomerania is also a growing academic center offering a very wide range of education within 8 public universities (with other private universities).

S3 Strategy

RIS3 The Regional Innovation Strategy of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship 2030 (RIS3) is treated as a development program implementing the provisions of the Development Strategy of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship until 2030. It defines the activity of the local government in shaping high quality of life of residents and strengthening the competitiveness of the region. In the context of the RIS3 innovation strategy, it directs the transformation of the voivodeship towards a smart region, basing its growth on knowledge, where human capital and learning skills become the basic source of productivity. It sets the direction for our region to build a modern and stable economy, improve the quality of life of residents and the condition of the natural environment . It is intended to be an impulse to change the attitude towards innovation, the willingness to innovate and the courage to take risks. The strategy creates innovation as the driving force of the economy and an important stimulus for the modernisation of the Region.
