AI Continent Action Plan – what role for AI in public sector? - ICT WG Meeting

The European Union is committed and determined to become a global leader in Artificial Intelligence. The recently published AI Continent Action Plan aims to make the EU a leading AI continent. With its five pillars, the Action Plan aims to tackle five strategic areas from computing infrastructure, data, developing algorithms and adoption, skills to regulatory simplification.

The European Commission has also launched a public consultation on the Apply AI Strategy, aiming to strengthen the adoption and deployment of AI in key industries and the public sector in the EU. It aims to improve public service delivery and streamline administrative processes by fostering the integration of AI solutions. This is also likely to impact cities and regions and their service delivery.

The objective of the meeting was to explore the AI Continent Plan and its impacts to cities and regions. Examples, and possible inputs provided by members to the Apply AI Strategy, were presented and used to stimulate discussion.
