Bioeconomy WG meeting: Bio-based materials for sustainable built environments

We are happy to welcome you to our next Bioeconomy WG meeting which will look at bio-based materials for sustainable built environments. The meeting will take place on 8 June between 14:00-15:30 CEST.

Our buildings generate 40% of the European greenhouse gas emissions. The European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, highlighted in her State of the Union speech that the construction sector can be turned from a carbon source into a carbon sink, if organic building materials are applied. The built environment has subsequently been outlined as one of the key product value chains in the Circular Economy Action Plan, and the Renovation Wave Strategy and the New European Bauhaus will further ensure that buildings are renovated and built sustainably.

This Bioeconomy WG meeting aims to present the EU policy framework on sustainable and bio-based built environments, and look at how Horizon Europe is supporting a more sustainable and bio-based construction sector. The meeting will also bring forward three regional innovative examples of bio-based materials for sustainable built environments.
