Brussels Talks: 5G is smart, but 6G is smarter

The Polish National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) Office in Brussels / Business and Science Poland is organising a webinar on Smart Networks and Services partnership and 6G technology, in the framework of its "Brussels Talks" series. Peter Stuckmann, Interim Executive Director of the new Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking and Deputy Director Future Networks at DG CONNECT of the European Commission, will join the webinar as a speaker.

The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS) aims to ensure industrial leadership for Europe in 5G and to contribute to accelerating the green and digital transition. What’s more, its agenda will allow Europe to foster technology sovereignty in 6G. The SNS JU sets out an ambitious mission and an EU budget of € 900 million for the period 2021-2027. This first European large-scale R&I work programme on 6G kicks off the first phase of the SNS roadmap to shape the new generation of communication technology throughout this decade.

6G will enable full industrial digitalisation and support of vertical industries – smart buildings, smart agriculture, smart cities and all smart – along with the integration of new technologies and support of emerging applications (AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, IoT, holographic type of communications, critical infrastructure support applications, multi-sense networks). It will also mainstream massive machine to machine (M2M) communication.

The webinar will take place on Monday, 14 March 2022, 14:00-15:00 CET and will be hosted by Ewa Kocińska-Lange, Director of the NCBR Office in Brussels. It will feature a presentation by the guest and a Q&A session.

  • How will 5G deployment support the green transition?
  • What are the ambitions of SNS towards the New Generation Internet?
  • How advanced are the global competitors?
  • What would be the cost of modernising the existing networks?
  • What is going to change once 6G is implemented? What new functionalities will be available?
