Policies for Makerspaces poster

European Conference on Policies for Makerspaces

Our objective is to ensure that collaborative makerspaces succeed.

Network, share your knowledge, learn from like-minded people from across the continent and attain new skills at the European Conference on Policies for Makerspaces (ECPM).

As part of the Interreg Europe project Urban M, partner cities have identified examples of makerspace best practice, tested policy approaches and developed action plans to ensure our cities/regions create receptive conditions for makerspaces. Our hope is that we will demonstrate the impact that collaborative makerspace facilities can have on innovation and establish a European network of advocates.

On the day:

- The event will be held in central Bratislava

- You will hear from international keynote speaker, Joey Gottbrath, and panel discussion on makerspaces.

- Learn from the exhibition of city policy changes and how these changes have impacted upon makers.

- Mix with people on a makerspace mission at the networking reception and learn some making skills for yourself.

Keynote speaker:

Joey Gottbrath is the Technical Lead at Jacobs Institute of Design Innovation, a prototyping and fabrication space for the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to overseeing programming, equipment, and space management for the Jacobs Institute, Gottbrath is currently developing an interdepartmental network of diverse fabrication spaces throughout the UC Berkeley campus. In October 2019, Gottbrath presented “Makerspace Staffing Models: A Survey,” at the International Symposium of Academic Makerspaces at Yale University.

Prior to his work in the academic makerspace sector, Gottbrath managed the fabrication lab at the AutoDesk San Francisco Technology Center, supporting prototyping Autodesk products for the consumer and industrial markets. For 10 years, Gottbrath also managed and developed the fabrication spaces at The Crucible, an Oakland, CA, an urban industrial arts center that includes educational programs and studio spaces/support for local entrepreneurs working in the industrial arts. Gottbrath holds degrees in Functional Design and Sculpture.
