How to introduce consumption-based emissions in your circular agenda?

Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) Communities of Practice: online hands-on workshop

Cities and regions are under growing pressure to deliver real climate and circular economy impact, yet many policies still focus only on emissions within territorial borders. Consumption‑based emissions (CBE) offer a clearer picture by showing the climate impact of what cities consume, not just what they produce. Insights from the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative's Communities of Practice show that this perspective helps cities prioritise more effectively, align climate and circular economy goals and focus efforts where they can make the biggest difference.

The third workshop, 'How to introduce consumption-based emissions in your circular agenda?', taking place on 24 September from 14:00-16:00 CEST, is a hands‑on online session for city and regional practitioners who want to understand why CBE matters and where to start. The session introduces what a CBE inventory is, what it can (and cannot) tell you, and how cities are beginning to use CBE insights to inform circular economy action. Using practical examples from Greater London and Copenhagen, the session shows how cities can take first steps despite limited data, capacity or experience and turn insight into action.

Who’s it for?

  • City and regional practitioners working on circular economy, sustainability, procurement, waste management, economic development, or innovation.
  • Public officials involved in contracts, budgeting, programme design or setting KPIs.
  • Anyone already implementing circular strategies but facing challenges in delivery and uptake.

ERRIN's role in the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative Coordination and Support Office (CCRI-CSO)

Funded by the European Commission, the CCRI Coordination and Office, in which ERRIN is a partner, acts as the central hub of the CCRI ecosystem. It supports the implementation and coordination of CCRI activities, helping cities, regions and territorial clusters transition towards a circular economy. The CCRI Office is a multidisciplinary team of experts in circular economy and works closely with CCRI Pilots, Fellows, Replicators, Projects and Associated Partners. The first phase of the CCRI Office ran from 2022 to 2025. During the second phase (2026–2029), the CCRI Office will continue expanding its support to more cities and regions across Europe. Please follow the circular economy tag on the ERRIN website to receive updates on forthcoming CCRI opportunities.
