Launch of the OECD Science, Technology and Innovation Outlook 2023

Launch of the OECD Science, Technology and Innovation Outlook 2023

The OECD Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Outlook is a biennial publication that aims to inform policymakers and analysts on recent and future changes in global STI patterns and their potential implications on and for national and international STI policies. It will take place on 16 March from 14:30-17:00 at Conference Centre Albert Borschette, with online streaming also available.

The 2023 STI Outlook focuses on how STI policy can enable sustainability transitions in times of disruption and addresses some of the following topics:

  • The climate emergency requires a complete transformation of energy, agrifood, and mobility systems. STI plays a crucial role, but governments must act urgently and ambitiously in their policies;
  • Governments should create policy portfolios to enable transformative innovation and low-carbon technologies to emerge. This requires larger investments and directionality in research and innovation, such as mission-oriented policies;
  • International cooperation is essential, but rising geopolitical tensions and strategic competition in emerging technologies may pose challenges. The STI Outlook 2023 explores these issues and trends that present a new operating environment to which STI needs to adapt.

Join this hybrid event to discuss the implications of these trends for STI policy.

If you would like to attend in person, please register. Otherwise, live streaming is available from 15:00 onwards.
