Minimising the hidden costs of tourism in Mediterranean islands: Waste prevention actions and circular economy perspectives

The Mediterranean Sea is the world's leading tourist region with a major industry, providing the main source of income to local economies. The annual wave of tourism visiting the Mediterreanean places a burden on local infrastructure, particularly in regards to waste management, on islands especially.

The BLUEISLANDS project is coming to a close and will share its results in on an online event that brings together EU policymakers, representatives of public authorities from islands, researchers and circular economy practitioners and key stakeholders from the tourism sector.

The web-conference will share knowledge on the negatives impacts of tourism and solutions, in an effort to minimise the hidden costs of tourism so that it is no longer burdensome for the environment and local population.
