VIA QUERINISSIMA: A route from the North to the South of Europe

Via Querinissima project is about creating a modern cultural route based on the story of Pietro Querini.
Via Querinissima aims to trace the route travelled by Pietro Querini by sea and by land to endorse the values of solidarity and welcome to promote slow, conscious and sustainable, cultural tourism.

The event on the Via Querinissima project will be held on 29 March between 10:00 and 11:30 at the European Parliament.

In 1431, Pietro Querini, a Venetian merchant and navigator, started one of the most impressive sea voyages that would lead him and his crew members, after a dramatic shipwreck, to the Lofoten islands (Norway). Here Querini and his sailors discovered the customs and traditions of the fishing community that had welcomed them with a spirit of solidarity and saw for the first time an air-dried fish, the stockfish.

When they returned to Italy following two different routes by land, Querini brought back this dried and salty fish that in Italy is called "baccalà" and represents the main ingredient for traditional recipes of the Veneto region such as "baccalà mantecato alla veneziana" and "baccalà alla vicentina".

Via Querinissima aims to trace the routes travelled by Pietro Querini by sea and land to promote slow, conscious, sustainable, food and wine cultural tourism and seeks to obtain the Council of Europe certification as an international cultural route in 2024.

Translation will be provided into English and Italian. Guess admission with registration will start at 10:00.

Please register for the event here, before 24 March.
