Scotland House - St Andrew's Lecture 2021 ''A Fairer, Greener Planet - Driving innovation in Scotland to build a planet fit for future generations''

To save future generations from the harmful effects of climate change, compassion must be at the crux of any global solution and St Andrew's Day is the perfect occasion inclusive thought and reflection. Coming less than three weeks after the end of COP26 in Glasgow, this years St Andrew's Lecture will be a timely opportunity to reflect on the outcomes of the conference, for both Scotland and the wider world, and allow us to start a discussion about what next steps are required to deliver our climate ambitions and ensure COP26 has a positive legacy.

Adrian Gillespie was recently appointed Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, joining from the University of Strathclyde where he was Strathclyde’s first Chief Commerical Officer. Utilising his passion for innovation and development, Adrian oversaw the growth of Strathclyde’s industry-facing activities and the development of innovative, place-based economic development projects such as the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland and the Glasgow City Innovation District. Prior to this, Adrian honed his knowledge of the Scottish technology and energy sectors while working for sixteen years at Scottish Enterprise, holding various leadership positions in the technology and energy sectors before becoming Managing Director leading Scottish Enterprise’s support for high growth companies, innovation, entrepreneurship and infrastructure development.
