Smart Specialisation for SDGs: A reflection framework for strengthening sustainability dimension in S3

Smart Specialisation for SDGs: A reflection framework for strengthening sustainability dimension in S3

In October 2021, the JRC launched e-Talk webinar series to explore the contribution of Smart Specialisation (S3) to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A couple of months later, in December 2021, JRC released a paperĀ "Addressing sustainability challenges and Sustainable Development Goals via Smart Specialisation. Towards a theoretical and conceptual framework". The authors proposed new guiding principles for S3 and put forward a set of questions for a self-assessment framework for regions and countries wishing to strengthen the sustainability dimension in their S3. JRC asked a group of experts to test and further develop the framework in close collaboration with regional and national S3 practitioners.

In this context, a JRC e-Talk will be organised on 28 April at 11:00-13:15 CEST to present key findings from this research and introduce a revised reflection and self-assessment framework developed together with practitioners. A moderated discussion with participants is also planned.
