Transport WG meeting: Multimodal Digital Mobility Services (MDMS)

Onsite event - Stakeholders not based in Brussels will have the possibility to follow the meeting online.

Mobility as a Service, also known as "MaaS", aims to make all daily mobility services accessible by linking digital technology with transport methods. This global vision of mobility is essential today to make life easier for travellers and to offer the best options for getting around. Trips can now be organised by using a unique digital media application that provides more services (e.g. information, ticket purchases, reservations) and partnerships with companies working with mobility (e.g. shared mobility, parking). MaaS is much more than a tool: it represents a process for organising and piloting mobility on a local and regional scale.

While MaaS applications are being developed in many cities, the legal framework for their development varies from one Member State to another. Many issues remain, such as the cooperation between public authorities and multimodal digital mobility services.

After a public consultation to gather views on the legislative initiative related to multimodal digital mobility services (MDMS), the EC is currently preparing its proposal intended to facilitate and accelerate the planning and buying of transport tickets for journeys that combine different modes of transport.

The event will be an occasion to hear from Victoire Champenois – Policy Officer, Unit B.4 Sustainable and Intelligent Transport, DG MOVE – who will present the MDMS initiative as well as examples of MAAS developed by ERRIN members while discussing regional needs and expectations.

Members can indicate if they would like to take the floor by emailing gaia.marotta@errin.eu and silvia.ghiretti@errin.eu by Monday 16 January 2023. These interventions should last 5 minutes and offer a glimpse into a best practice, pose a question or raise an expectation or a concern.
