UVAR Exchange Workshop: Towards a common European road signage for low and zero emission zones

UVAR Exchange Workshop: Towards a common European road signage for low and zero emission zones

The UVAR Exchange consortium is organising a Stakeholder Workshop that will be held online on 3 March 2022, at 9:00-12:00 CET. The workshop aims at supporting the harmonization of UVAR road signs at the international level. Representatives of UNECE and DG MOVE will participate and share their views on the ongoing work.

The workshop is primarily aimed at decision-makers and authorities responsible for road signs and road markings.

Urban and Regional Vehicle Access Regulations (UVARs) are a vital part of the strategy to achieve clean, safe and sustainable urban mobility. The focus on reducing pollution levels has led in recent years to the introduction of Low Emission Zones or LEZs. The workshop will outline key issues related to the lack of clarity and uniformity of physical road signs relating to LEZs and present an overview of the LEZs signs currently in use in Europe. The aim will be to initiate a discussion and generate consensus towards a common European approach to address the fragmentation of LEZs road signs. The workshop will also address the signs for Zero Emission Zones or ZEZs that are emerging as a new type of UVARs.

The UVAR Exchange research project funded by the European Parliament and contracted by DG MOVE addresses the informational challenges described above. The project is led by Panteia together with partners AustriaTech, CORTE, MAPtm, TRT, and Sadler Consultants.
