oPEN Lab project

Webinar on City Labs as positive engines for energy transition

The oPEN Lab project, in collaboration with ENoLL, is organising an online session to explore the barriers and drivers for using energy communities as tools for the energy transition in urban environments. The event will take place online, on April 24 at 10:00-12:00.

Objectives of the meeting:

  • Increase understanding of the use of energy communities as drivers for energy transition
  • Share best practices and case studies of Energy Communities in Living Labs
  • Enable dialogue to identify drivers and barriers to the uptake of energy communities

The event is aimed at local representatives, (social science) researchers, Living Lab practitioners, business representatives and citizens interested in learning more about Positive Energy Neighbourhoods (PENs) and Energy Communities.

The oPEN Lab project aims to create Positive Energy Neighbourhoods (PENs) in three European cities, Genk, Pamplona and Tartu. According to oPEN Lab, PENs aim to be energy efficient and energy flexible groups of interconnected buildings and urban areas that produce net zero greenhouse gas emissions from energy use on an annual basis and actively manage an annual local or regional surplus production of renewable energy, based on an integrated, participatory, neighbourhood-based approach.
