ERRIN S3 amendment proposals for the National and Regional Partnership Plans
With the deadline for amendments to the NRPPs regulation in the European Parliament having passed on 9 June and the discussions in the Council ongoing, the question of the role of Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3) in the next EU long-term budget remains open. ERRIN and EURADA have jointly developed amendments to the NRPPs regulation, focusing on S3.

Call for regional insights from applying to the I3 Instrument
ERRIN's Smart Specialisation Working Group is launching a call for regional insights to be presented during its upcoming meeting on "I3 Instrument – a look at the future and the current calls", taking place in person in Brussels on 18 June 2026. ERRIN members are invited to express interest in sharing their practical reflections by 29 May.

Europe's competitiveness is built bottom-up

ERRIN's signing of an Open Letter on the Future of the EU Budget (2028–2034)
In an effort spearheaded by ERRIN and EURADA, twelve European networks have co-signed an Open Letter calling on the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council to safeguard and reinforce Smart Specialisation Strategies, and protect multi-level governance in the next MFF post-2027. The letter includes practical recommendations to ensure European competitiveness and cohesion.

On 12 March, the EISMEA launched the I3 Instrument Partner Search tool, a new online platform designed to support innovation actors in forming strong, cross-border consortia under the Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) Instrument.

Call for participation in S3 Learning Communities
New S3 Learning Communities (S3LCs) will soon launch under the umbrella of the Smart Specialisation Community of Practice (S3 CoP), covering four themes: S3 & Competitiveness; S3 Governance and Monitoring; S3 Internationalisation and Interregional Cooperation; and S3 Directionality. Regional and member state officers are encouraged to express their interest in participating by 26 March through an online form.
