TWICE (Twin for Waste Integrated Circular Ecosystem)

European regions, particularly island territories like the Balearic Islands, face the challenge of efficiently and sustainably managing the entire waste cycle. To overcome current fragmentation, a unified governance tool is essential. The TWICE (Twin for Waste Integrated Circular Ecosystem) project addresses this need by developing a Digital Twin with a dual nature: it serves as both a real-time diagnostic tool to visualise and quantify current waste flows and a predictive simulation engine to test future scenarios. By orchestrating the complete lifecycle of all waste streams, from collection and sorting to final treatment and valorisation, the TWICE platform offers a holistic and unified overview. Using AI models, it not only monitors performance but also provides the intelligence needed to optimise operations and shape strategic policy, turning data into the key asset for a resilient and truly circular economy.
