The Free State of Saxony with its 4 universities, 5 universities of applied sciences and more than 50 research institutions has a strong tradition especially in engineering, microelectronics, materials research and resource technologies as well as innovative actors in the growing areas of medical and biotechnologies. The S3 Forum – the first EU-level, in-person gathering on S3 since 2020 – took place on 28-29 November in Barcelona. ERRIN Secretariat joined the event alongside many network members and hundreds of S3 practitioners and experts from across Europe. The days were packed with discussions around perspectives for smart specialisation and interregional collaboration on innovation.
Until 20 October 2023, 46 regions that have been identified as facing a sharp working-age population decline, in combination with a low and stagnating share of people with tertiary education and brain drain can apply for an open call for technical assistance under the Talent Booster Mechanism.
