S3 Strategy

The RIS3 AÇORES is based on the endogenous competitive advantages facing the international specialization, covering three thematic areas Agriculture Livestock and Agribusiness; Fisheries and Sea and Tourism. Currently, RIS 3 AÇORES have been the focus of review and evaluation in order to prepare the new financing program period 2021-2027. Following the S3 approach as “economic transformation agenda”, RIS 3 Açores mobilized the main stakeholders to promote the existing resources looking for a definition of future vison on regional specialization assets. In this context, the RIS 3 Açores priorities are framed on sustainable development goals (SDG’s) and adapted to the new regional context. The new RIS3 Açores maintains the existing core priorities integrating now the “Land Space Interactions” due to the Azores importance in the European Space Agenda. Moreover, the new RIS 3 Açores performances its specialization supported by transversal areas namely: Land, resources and Circular Economy; Environment, Clima and biogeodiversity; Digital Technologies and Transformation; Quality of Life and Societal Challenges and Geoestrategy and Atlantic Dynamics.
