Ile-de-France Europe represents in Brussels the Ile-de-France Region, six local Councils from the region and Ile-de-France Mobilités, the regional transports organising authority. We work directly for/with regional and local politicians and their administrations and a series of regional organisations in various areas that we help develop their European projects and initiatives. In the field of research & innovation, we are in contact with many organisations from the regional ecosystem such as higher education institutions and research organizations, regional clusters and digital innovations hubs, both public and private companies, etc. As far as R&I is concerned, the major areas of expertise in Ile-de-France are industrial and digital technologies (AI, Big data, IoT, cybersecurity, robotics, optics & photonics), smart & clean mobility, smart cities, clean tech/environment technologies & circular economy, health, aeronautics and SSH. More generally speaking, with more than 645,000 students, 16 universities and many other higher education institutions on one side, and more than 150,000 R&D staff (including 103,000 researchers) in its public and private research laboratories (representing 38% of the national workforce in the field) the Ile-de-France region is a major player in higher education and R&I.
The 2014-2020 smart specialisation strategy of the Ile-de-France region focuses on three main priority areas : health and well-being, mobility and environment/energy and five strategic innovation domains at the crossroads of these three areas : medical devices ; smart and sustainable mobility ; digital creation ; complex systems engineering and software ; eco-construction and high performance building districts. Also two key emerging technologies, photonics and robotics, have been identified as transversal priorities directly contributing to the fast development of applications in the five priority areas. The future 2021-2027 regional S3 strategy has not been validated yet, it is still in preparation.
