Call for evidence on the future EIT regulation

Call for evidence on the future EIT regulation

The European Commission has launched a call for evidence on the future regulation of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and its Strategic Innovation Agenda, inviting stakeholders across Europe to share their views by 23 September 2026.

The revision will shape the future framework for the EIT and its Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs), with the aim of strengthening their contribution to Europe’s competitiveness and innovation ecosystems. The Commission is seeking input from public authorities, businesses, academia, research organisations and other stakeholders ahead of the preparation of its proposal.

Strengthening the EIT’s role in Europe’s innovation ecosystems

The future Regulation is expected to make the EIT more flexible, effective and closely aligned with evolving EU priorities. It will build on the EIT’s existing role in bringing together education, research and business, while supporting innovation uptake, entrepreneurial education and skills development.

The revision also aims to improve coordination between the EIT and other EU innovation programmes, reduce complexity and strengthen governance and oversight. Importantly for regions, the future framework is expected to continue supporting regional innovation capacity across Europe.

For ERRIN members and regional innovation ecosystems, this is an opportunity to highlight the role that place-based innovation ecosystems and regional actors can play in connecting education, research and business, strengthening innovation capacity and supporting the uptake of innovation across Europe.

The Commission is encouraging stakeholders across Europe to contribute their experience and expertise to the assessment process. The call for evidence is open until 23 September 2026: Call for evidence now open: contribute to the future EIT Regulation | EIT
